RJ~ yes, he uses some kind of cool filter. I absolutely love the way they look. It's almost like a real-life cartoon type effect. And I agree RJ~ the sky looks incredible with the filtering effects.

Daniel~ did you see the filtered photo he did of you?

RE: Links to pictures and video from LVM 2008

I have a Nikon D90...and a soon to be sold on ebay D70.... The D90 is what I took most of the photos with, my friend who helped me out also had a D90.  I have not yet posted the photos that I took with the D70... They were like the last hour at the final corner, when we ran out of capacity on our 80+ gigs of SD cards we were forced to resort to our backup Camera(The D70 uses Compact flash)

I shoot the photos in the Raw Format, rather than the compressed JPG format which most people use.  That allows me to create multiple exposures,

From there I take those exposures and layer them together.  That allows me to have The crazy contrasts and awesome colors.

It is a technique known as HDR.

I use a normal lens, with a uv filter, but that is to protect the lens :)
UV filters cost about $15... a scratched lens costs a couple of hundred.

At the finish line I was using a FishEYE lens, which allowed me to see a very wide angle of what was going on, unfortunately it cannot see things that are over 10 feet away.  So people that finished on the far side came out looking like they were in Arizona.
Another drawback(depending on who you ask) of the FishEYE is that it distorts the corners.  I think it adds an interesting effect, but it can be easily straightened with software.
