APRIL 2015 Challenge Thread

ThumbupByebyeBananaBanana

Great weather slid in right between Good Friday and Easter so I put in 10 miles today. Easter Sunday is very busy and the weather is going to suck so that might be it for the weekend.

Sorry Spartans, I will always pull for you.  But I did have Duke in my bracket.

RE: APRIL 2015 Challenge Thread

Challenge this month: Complete my training plan for the Colorado Marathon May 3. Then BQ there!!!!!

Training going fairly well so far. Month was a record mileage month and I have begun to get some speedwork and tempo runs in the last couple of weeks. Down a few pounds which was not intentional but it is good for running. Achilles is being well managed, but still has not fully healed yet. Hopefully stay healthy this month.

Happy Easter all!

RE: APRIL 2015 Challenge Thread

Hamstring is a bit tender after umstead, so I've been fake zeroing it for a few days.
Seems to be getting better but still has my attention.

Other than that, after a particularly gluttonous easter, I'm going back on smoothies only until 3 days at the fair, which is mid may.

RE: APRIL 2015 Challenge Thread

Caught a cold in March. I was in Vegas over the weekend and got food poisoning. My next marathon is less than a month away and things aren't looking good.

RE: APRIL 2015 Challenge Thread

Past week went exceptional well. 57 total miles - a new PR for weekly miles. Nailed my tempo run and my strength run (sort of like speedwork, only longer intervals and not quite as fast paced). Was very strong at the end of my long run (18 miles). And best of all, my achilles feels pretty decent - maybe 90%? So, I almost ready to give it my all in Colorado in 3 weeks. Have one more week of pretty intense training and will begin to taper.

RE: APRIL 2015 Challenge Thread

Leon, sounds like you're on track to BQ. I'm still plugging along, lots of miles, not much speed but my weight is doing well. So at least I'll look good next weekend in OKC.

RE: APRIL 2015 Challenge Thread

Another week down. Decent week, didn't feel as good this week but I got all my runs done pretty much hitting my times. Felt really good today on an easy 4 miler to cap the week off after a couple of days feeling sluggish. Couple of more hard runs Mon & Wed, and then some serious tapering!

Randy - are you aware of what's happening with Shirley (Hammergirl)?

OKC Memorial tomorrow, no big hopes for time or anything, just hoping to finish and get one of those Carl Jr.'s cheeseburgers.

Leon, I haven't heard anything about Shirley. I haven 't had home internet for a few days, and using my phone is pretty limited.

RE: APRIL 2015 Challenge Thread

Randy - Shirley was diagnosed with colon cancer a couple of months ago and since had part of it removed. Unfortunately, the cancer was not contained and now has spread. Here is her blog that she occasionally updates. Shirley's Blog

This one is a little old but it sums up a very difficult few days for her.

Did you ever get on Facebook? That's where we get frequent updates. She is doing better currently and continues to stay positive. The long term prognosis is not that good, but Shirley is a fighter and she is getting tremendous support from her friends and particularly the LVM gang.

If you are on FB, then there are a couple of group pages we all follow...

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1570343249903340/

There is another one that I could also give you via personal message.

Also - Hope your OKC race went well.

RE: APRIL 2015 Challenge Thread

Tomorrow, I am on my way to the Colorado Marathon. Except for some short, stay lose runs, training is done. I'm feeling optimistic for a good day and we all know a lot could happen in 26.2 miles. Here is my wish list:

1. Weather is perfect - cool with a wind out of the NW
2. The elevation has minimal impact on my breathing
3. I stay healthy before and during the race
4. I get a decent night's sleep before the race

Should those all happen, Boston is a real possibility.
