Tomorrow, I am on my way to the Colorado Marathon. Except for some short, stay lose runs, training is done. I'm feeling optimistic for a good day and we all know a lot could happen in 26.2 miles. Here is my wish list:

1. Weather is perfect - cool with a wind out of the NW
2. The elevation has minimal impact on my breathing
3. I stay healthy before and during the race
4. I get a decent night's sleep before the race

Should those all happen, Boston is a real possibility.

Well, almost but no cigar. I ran a 3:57 and needed a 3:52 or 3:53 to get in (3:55 is actual qualifying time). Was running nearly 2 minutes ahead of plan through the first 17 miles then fell back to pace by Mile 22. Still had a chance for a 3:53 at Mile 23 but just couldn't hold speed for more than a couple of minutes at a time and needed to take frequent short walk breaks to catch my breath. The altitude got me in the last 7 miles or so when I encountered a couple of uphills and mostly flat sections.

I didn't get a good night's sleep but I doubt that it impacted me. I would say the weather impacted me a little as it was fairly warm toward the end. Not enough water stations IMO after Mile 20. That could have help some. The wind was not a factor either way but it sure would have been nice to get a NW wind for those last 6 miles!

Though I'm a little bummed because I really wanted to qualify and take a few months of easy running to let me achilles fully heel, I now need to start training for the next one in a week or two. Looking at doing the Freakin' Fast Marathon in Boise Idaho Sep 5. Another down hill marathon only this time it has nearly a 4000 foot drop instead of 1200. It will be my final chance to BQ for the 2016 race - my Plan D.

All is not lost though since I did PR and at age almost 60 and 18 years of doing this crazy ship, I have to say I'm quite proud of that.

Marathons:Wineglass 10/1, LVM 11/12
1/2 Marathons: TBD

RE: APRIL 2015 Challenge Thread

I ran something like 110 in April. Running streak on the 30th is 1580-something, 100-mile month streak is 25.
