RE: October 2015

Just back from the Vickster's place in Mission Viejo, CA. Missed my first planned run this year when I partied way too much at my niece's wedding and the next day was one old fashioned hangover I haven't had in probably 30 years. Took hours before I was able to stand or walk without getting dizzy. Running in Ca. was nice, but a bit warm for my liking. Also, a bit hillier than I wanted as I am still trying to fully heal my achilles. Flat running stresses it much less. Also, taking it easy on the pace to help it heal.

October will be getting ready for Vegas. Doing my mileage but not the speedwork I would normally do. Will not be running Vegas particularly hard this year. Hoping for a nice comfortable pace I can hold the whole way. Would like to come in under 4:30. I think it's doable.

How did it go Dean? Robert Manon said it was pretty brutal out there.

RE: October 2015

It was brutal. Especially the second half where there was no shade on the course. Fortunately some spectators passed out ice and ice water. That helped a lot. I still haven't recovered.

RE: October 2015

I forgot to update on my race on the 18th. It's a little race, would have been fun since we ran from the downtown ballpark along the river, and the weather was just perfect, but there were a few distractions. I'm still not sure I ran the whole thing, one loop I missed the first time I ran twice on the second lap, but the only guy close to a race official wasn't sure I needed too. And the mile markers were nowhere close, I think the half was right and they didn't worry about the full. Didn't matter that much, I was just running as a training race and no effort to go fast, didn't at 5:39. They ran out of medals really early, this is the same race that didn't bring any medals last time so they had to mail them, so that wasn't too unexpected. Any finished, and that was number 78 for me, as ready for Vegas as I will be.

RE: October 2015

Congrats on #78 Randy - more than twice the number I have.

As October ends tomorrow, I should hit 226 miles for the month assuming I do my scheduled 10 mile run tomorrow. Another record monthly mileage for me. That makes 8 monthly records this year! I should hit the 2,000 mile mark sometime just before leaving for Vegas - way ahead of any year since I began running some 18 years ago.

I stayed off hills as much as possible this month and just ran easy pace all month to let my achilles heal more. While not totally healed, it is feeling pretty good most of the time. There are times where it feels totally normal but it still usually gets tender after runs. While running, I feel it about half the time and it is much less painful than it had been earlier in the year. So, making progress!

Can't wait to see everyone in Vegas that is coming!
