January 2016

It's the 9th so I'll start this. I've been doing ok this month, it's been so wet that it's hard to run on the trails, but I've been mixing it up and getting in some long runs. Today was cold, didn't realize how cold until I couldn't get my shoes off, the laces were frozen in place.

RE: January 2016

A new year! Looking forward to many things this year. Running is off to a good start. My achilles is almost completely healed and have been running pain free for a few weeks now. Just finished the 4th week of my training plan for Boston. Weather had been great with a couple of days running in shorts until today! 30 mph winds, blowing snow and ice pellets made for a painful run this morning at times.

RE: January 2016

I'm running a half next Sunday in Palm Desert. The past 17 years this race was run in Palm Springs. It was usually run in February, but I think because the LA Marathon is on February 14, they changed it to January this year.

RE: January 2016

A week to go before my next race, running the 50K in Waco. Not in great shape but at least it will be warm down there, I really don't like winter anymore.

RE: January 2016

I managed to get five miles in this morning in the rain to end the month at 100 miles.

RE: January 2016

Ah, the end of another month. It was a good month. I did set a mileage record for the month of January, but what made it good was that my achilles was almost 100% the whole month. Very little issues with it. It has been so nice to run without any pain and most of the time without any discomfort. The weather has also been fairly cooperative. Only 3 treadmill days, though a couple of other days were pretty challenging to be outside. I actually had about 4 days in shorts I believe.

Training for Boston is going great so far. I'm hitting my planned times, except a couple of snowy days that slowed a couple of my tempo runs. Looking forward to February. We will be leaving for California around the 11th or perhaps sooner to help out with our first grandson, expected on Feb 19. Might be difficult to get my runs in on our travel days (we are driving), but I will try.

Hope all have a great month!

RE: January 2016

Ran the 50K in Waco this Sunday. It's a fun race but those hills are brutal even when I've run it several times. This year it was really warm and sunny so even harder.
Started out poorly, I left home extra early to drive down and still got caught in monster traffic jam at Ft. Worth, never made it to the expo. So had to get up very early on Sunday to drive in and get my bib, along with some bad stomach issues. Really worried about the warm temps at the start, but after all that it just settled down and I had a fun time. Ended up almost exactly the same time as last year at 7:40, a slow time but not awful.
I'm not sure this race is really interested in the 50K, this year it was down to 41 people, and they had the same issue with course marking as last year. But it is still a great little race, and it was nice to go somewhere a lot warmer.

RE: January 2016

We've been having some great weather so far this year, not cold really and no snow or anything. Getting some good runs in because of that.

Have a trail marathon Sunday the 28th, supposedly they made the course a lot easier this year so that should be fun.
